He quit school at the age 15 to tour with legendary bluegrass muscian Earnest Tubbs.
He played guitar for Elvis. Ya'll know that? US Mail, Too Much Monkey Business and Guitar Man are song wrote by Jerry and played by Jerry for Elvis.
It was always my hope to see Jerry Reed live in concert. I always wanted him to sign my guitar.
It won't happen now.
I've tried to mimic his guitar playing style for years, but I'm not very good at it.I'll keep trying, because there isn't a replacement for that swamp guitar style out there anymore, and there is nowhere near the originality he brought to the table.
I shook the hand of a retired Marine who served with HMX-1 yesterday. It was the highlight of my day.
I met a woman who was here from Turkey to get her education, then she is going back to Turkey. We converesed in my limited Arabic mixed with English. She laughed at me good naturedly, corrected my mistakes and taught me a few new words. She came here with her daughters for the education. Shes getting her Masters degree now and hopes to take it back to Turkey to help make a difference there. I wished her luck.
My days are long this week, but semi adventerous to be sure. My sleep short. But I did want to take a moment to drop ya'll a line, and send you over to this article entitled: Sarah Palin and The Double Standard.
If I was not going to vote for John McCain before, I may now. I happen to have a lot of respect for Governor Palin, and I think that if one deems Obama qualified, then you must deem Palin qualified as well.
Simplification? No. Ones a former community organizer. The other is a former mayor. One is a Senator. One is a Govenor. While not strictly parallel, the jobs are similar.
So, I've known about this for a bit, but wanted to have a shot at playing with it first. Sometime in the last 24 hours, Google unleashed it's first attempt at a web browser. They call it Chrome and so far, it's come out of the gate running like a madman.
In the 2 hours I've played with it so far, it's loaded about 85% of the pages I've visited in half the time IE7 or Firefox has. How it handles more complex sites, forms and web based multimedia I'll find out over the next few days. However, if you are the type that like to try things out, point your current browser of choice to http://www.google.com/chrome and give it a try. So far the only thing that hasn't worked perfect is it's importing of bookmarks from IE7. It certainly got the majority, but I've noticed a few missing. Certainly nothing to cry over at this point.
As a matter of fact, I've posted this using Chrome. So it's already found to be 100% compatable with Techography. Still has a way to go (testing wise) before I'll give it my stamp of approval (if thats even worth anything).
It was a nail biter game, no doubt. But in the end, the better team won. I have to give props to Craft. In the first half i thought that boy could do no right. The second half he could do no wrong. Simply an excellent comeback.
Quarterback however I'm not so sure about. Unlike Joel I disagree a touch here. Crompton has been waiting for the big game for what? 3 seasons now? He's played back up, and been redshirted. practice, practice and more pratice.
I don't really see how anyone can prepare for a game more than that. But I will outright say I don't feel he was mentally prepared. At all. Even a little bit.
Kudo's to Hardesty and Foster who did their best in a ugly situation. Major props to the defense who fought all game long to keep us in the game.
It was shades of the '07 season all over again as Daniel Lincoln lined up again.
And our hopes for a stellar season, like the football, went wide and right.
Tennessee does it better than anyone. While there are myriad reasons college football inspires fanaticism among its followers, one stands above the rest.
It's the anticipation.
Today's on-demand technology has rendered that state of human emotion known as anticipation practically extinct. Do you remember, back in the day, when your t.v. received programming from a grand total of three channels? Back then, programming was fixed in time and therefore scarce. Frosty the Snowman was shown once in December, and if you missed it, well, you just missed it.
Far be it from me to dress it up better than Joel does. He has it on the money.
Win or lose, this is my team. Its my alumni. Its my school. In many ways its my way of life.
Most of my freinds are Pro-Football fans. They have a hard time understanding my obsession with a college team, a team whose players are constantly in flux, a team who wins big, loses big, and makes no money and whose ranking system is more confusing than your Uncle Bobs instructions on fly fishing.
I can only boil it down to one thing: It's my team.
Hurray! Upgrades completed and everything appears to be fine. One thing I did notice is that upon your first visit, the site may appear a little wonky, just hit the refresh button on your browser and all should be fixed. This issue happens because your browser keeps a copy of the site on your pc and compares it every time you visit. In this case, there are changes and without a refresh, it will take a while to correct itself.
If anyone finds any errors or issues, just let me know and I'll be sure to look into it.
As I mentioned in my last post, the site code for Techography has gotten a little out of date. So, since the weather is going to be crap this weekend (meaning I still can't get out on my bike for so "me" time) I'll bring the site current. This upgrade, unlike most in the past, will bring some visual changes. I'm not 100% certain what they will be as I will need to spend at least an hour going over the code change logs, but from a quick glance, I know there will be some visual changes.
You can expect the change to take place either Friday or Saturday night. I'll certainly post more details before I execute.
I promised you pictures but they will have to wait.
All week we have worked on one subject from 7 am until dusk: Safety
CPR and First Aid Certifications
Defensive Driving Course
General Area Safety
Electrical Current Safety
You name it
Today we do ladder safety. By this weekend I'll have some downtime I'll be able to write more, but right now I need to make sure I pass both my end of semester finals for UofP and these safety classes
