Ipod: To defrag or not to defrag?
The answer is not. If you are an Ipod owner, using windows and a geek, you have already noticed that the Ipod you have uses the Fat file system and that means you could defrag it if you wanted. Why would you want to do this?
Well, any self respecting geek defrags their pc's hard drives on some sort of schedule as it re-arranges the data, puts things back in place and makes things a bit faster. So you would think the same applies to the Ipod. Well, it seems thats not the case. In doing some reading, I've found that Apple would rather you restore the Ipod using the firmware update utility and then re-sync your music (as the restore will wipe your music off) to put your files back on.
Some folks have defragged but saw no performace gain in switching between tracks or song start times. So, it's kind of a 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
